Jim Embree graduated from Central Missouri State University in 1970 with Associate Degrees in Architectural Drafting and Building Construction Technology. After graduation, Mr. Embree was employed three years as an estimator and purchasing agent for a national multi-family builder/developer. He then worked as a construction engineer/owner's representative for two national retail chains until 1976.

In 1976, Mr. Embree and a partner formed Jay's Construction Company, Inc., in Kansas City. He co-managed Jay's Construction Company and served as a vice president until September 1979. In October of that year, Mr. Embree incorporated Embree Construction Group under the laws of Missouri. To take advantage of the blossoming Sunbelt economy, the firm was relocated to Georgetown, Texas, in 1981. In 1982, the Texas corporation - Embree Construction Group, Inc. - was formed.
